Why Every General Contractor Needs a Trusted Fabricator in Their Network

May 13, 2026 · 9 min read · BuildersHaus Editorial

Scrambling to find a fab shop during the structural phase is expensive. Building the relationship before you need it isn't. Here's how to shortcut the vetting.

The vetting most GCs skip

AISC certification level, in-house detailing capacity, average delivery lead time on your typical package size, and current QC pass rate. Those four data points predict whether a fabricator will hold a schedule better than any reference call.

The Fabricators.io directory publishes them for every certified shop in the network, refreshed monthly. If a shop's QC pass rate slips below 96% for two quarters in a row, they lose the badge until they recover it. That's a signal you can plan around.
